Business Developments in 4Q 2007
- Nokia Agrees to Buy Navteq for $8.1bn - pending approval by US regulators and Navteq shareholders, Chicago-based digital mapping and navigational software maker Navteq must be rejoicing in its ears with a potential windfall considering it had sales of only $582 million in 2006
- eBay’s $1.43bn writeoff of Skype led to its founders’ resignation - 220 million Skype members did not translate into eBay’s hope of Skype integration between sellers and buyers, failure to expand overseas, and failure to convert Skype members as PayPal users. It’s a classic quantity vs quality proposition and it devalues Skype to just $1.7 billion from 2005 purchase of $3.1 billion
- AllTel adds WiFi data offering - costs between $10 and $30 per month depending on plan; plans to offer EVDO and unlimited WiFi for $69.98/month
