ICT Hubs and Super Regions

In 2006, GMA unveiled the concept of "super regions" to bring opportunities and synergies among logically designated regions. The regions are Northern Luzon Agribusiness Quadrangle, Luzon Urban Beltway, Central Philippines, Agribusiness Mindanao and Cyber Corridor. Arroyo said the "super region" concept will be one of the highlights of the Medium Term Public Investment Program. The government would invest P100 billion annually in the next five years to be spread out evenly for the development of the four mega-regions.

Now 15 locations are poised to be further developed as regional ICT hubs, and in the process, bring outsourcing opportunities to people outside Metro Manila. The areas are Clark in Angeles City, Cagayan de Oro, Legaspi, Urdaneta, Subic/Olongapo, Bacolod, Sta. Rosa, Dagupan, Iloilo, Davao, Cainta, Poro Point in San Fernando, Batangas City, Balanga in Bataan, and Tacloban.

Hope there will no redundancies or overlaps in bureacracy between these future ICT hubs and the Cyber Corridor. And more importantly, I hope that this development will be carried on by the next duly elected president in 2010 and forward.
